Pastor Roy E. Powell was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 13, 1952. He was educated in the Mobile County Public School System. He graduated from Trinity Gardens High School in 1970 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Grambling State University. In addition, he also attended Alabama Interdenominational Seminary at Bishop State Commuity College in Mobile, Alabama.
Pastor Powell knows first-hand the pitfalls associated with the world of addiction and destruction. For he was very much a part of the world until one Sunday night, March 22, 1987, between the hours of midnight and daybreak, he allowed Jesus Christ to take full control of his life which established in sincere repentance, genuine remorsre, total salvation, and a complete change of heart. This surrender of his life to Christ was done in one sweep by God. He was instantly changed and rearranged! He is a member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was licensed to preach the Gospel by the late Dr. F.L. Sanderson.
Pastor Powell has been preaching for a while now. He accepted the call to pastor the Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church in the "Black Jack" community of Saraland, Alabama in 1993. Pastor Powell has served as a member of the "Strategic Initiative Steering Committee" under the leadership of former Mobile Mayor Sam Jones. Pastor Powell and his wife Ruth are the parents of five daughters: Shannon (Orin), DeVita (Albert), Rashidah, Phebe, and Morgan. Five Grand-Daughters: Darci, Amryn, Dori, Demi, and Emmalee Ruth; and One Grandson: Josef.
