What We Believe

The Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church is God reverencing,  Bible reading, Bible believing, and Bible practicing church. CSMBC is also a friendly and loving Independent Baptist Church. Being an Independent Baptist Church is nothing to be afraid of. We do associate ourselves with the National Baptist Convention USA Incorporated (nationalbaptist.com) and are members of the Mobile Baptist Sunlight District Association. See what we believe below (note: some of the language and verbage used on this page is based from the book titled Baptist Handbook For Church Members by M. L. Moser, Jr.):

We Believe in the True God & the Divine Trinity (John 4:23-24; Matthew 28:19)

  • We believe that there is only one true God.
  • He is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature.

We Believe that the Devil is Real (Genesis 3:1-6; Job 1:6-12; 1 Peter 5:8)

  • We believe that Satan is an actual person, and not an imaginary influence
  • Satan fell from heaven due to pride, ambition, and self-will attempted to betray the Almighty
  • Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10a)
  • Satan is the ultimate deceiver, liar, tempter, and accuser of the saints
  • Satan is defeated because of Jesus Christ (John 10:10-29)

We Believe in the True Word of God: The Holy Bible (Psalm 119:89; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 19:7-11)

  • We believe that the Bible is a supernatural book and the Word of God
  • We believe that the Holy Bible is divinely inspired by God and written by man
  • We believe that the Holy Bible is the book that gives us instruction and will be the book by which is the standard for judgement before God.

We Believe in the Creation (Genesis 1; John. 1:1-5, 14; Heb. 11:3)

  • We believe that the record of creation in Genesis is literal and accurate description of the formation of life.

We Believe in the Fall of Man (Genesis 3; Romans 5:12-19)

  • We believe that man was created in holiness and in the very image of God, but because of the temptation by Satan and disobedience of God, fell from man's original created state.

We Believe in the Blood Atonement (Isaiah 53:6; Romans 6:7 and Romans 8:23)

  • We believe that due to the fall of man, man became a sinner guilty of transgression against God.
  • We believe that when Jesus, the Son of God and the only sinless human to ever live, came to earth, fulfilled the laws and commands given to Him by God, and willingly sacrificed His innocent life for us.
  • We believe that the shedding of His blood on the cross at Calvary was the ultimate sacrifice that gave back to us eternal provision for cleansing, for pardon, for peace, and for rest.

We Believe in Repentance and Faith (Mark 1:14-15; John 16:18)

  • We believe that repentance and faith are sacred duties, wrought in our souls by the Spirit of God.

We Believe in Salvation by Grace (II Timothy 1:8-9 and Ephesians 2:8-9)

  • We believe that grace is elective and saving, that it embraces the personal triune and redemptive ministry of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that salvation thus wrought is wholly by grace, “the free gift of God,” requiring neither culture nor works in any form to secure it or to keep it

We Believe in Becoming Born Again (Ephesians 2:1-9; John 3:16)

  • We believe that salvation involves the redemption of the whole man and is offered to all through the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Salvation includes regeneration, sanctification and glorification.

We Believe in Justification (Romans 5:1-9; Acts 13:38-39)

  • We believe that justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of righteousness of all sinners who believe in Christ.

We Believe in the Security of the Believer (John 10:27-29 and Romans 8:31-33, 35-39 and II Timothy 1:12)

  • We believe that salvation wrought by grace is everlasting.
  • We believe in "Once in Grace, Always in Grace"

We Believe in Sanctfication (1 Peter 1:2; I Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23-24)

  • We believe that sanctification is the process by which we are made partakers of His holiness; that it is a progressive work; that it is begun in regeneration; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

We Believe in the Lord's Return (Job 18:25-26 and Isaiah 9:6-7 and Zechariah 14:4 and Malachi 4:2 and Luke 1:31-33 and Matthew 25:31-34; Revalation 19:11-21 and Acts 1:11 and 1 Thess 4:16-17)

  • We believe that Christ Jesus is coming back to earth again; that His return shall be personal, audible, visible and bodily

We Believe in the Ressurection (Matthew 20:17-19, 28:6-7; Luke 24:1-12)

  • We believe that the Scriptures clearly teach that Jesus rose from the dead. He now exists in His glorified body at God's right hand.
  • There will be a resurrection of the righteous and the wicked.
  • The bodies of the righteous will conform to the glorious spiritual body of Jesus Christ.

We Believe in the Ordinances of the Church: Baptism & The Lord's Supper (Acts 8:36-39; I Corinthians 11:23-26)

  • We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer.
  • The Lord's Supper is the commemoration of the death of the Lord Jesus, preceded by solemn self-examination.
